The Collaboration with Emma Shipley

Hypnos have collaborated with Emma J Shipley, to bring her designs inspired by the raw beauty of the natural world to the world of comfort, in a collaboration of true Craftmanship. Her Mythica designs have been used to showcase the purpose of our bespoke upholstery service in crafting beds that are made to elevate your sanctuary.

It’s our pleasure to collaborate with such a talented British artist who creates enchanting designs that spark the imagination and allow you to step into an imagined world. That emboldens you to find your style featuring a gothic and mystical interpretation of natural landscapes, with Emma taking inspiration from coral reefs, Costa Rican rainforest, African savannahs and more to provoke your senses.  

The Story & Craft Behind Emma Shipley’s Fabric Paradise Lost

The Paradise Lost fabric embodies a spirit that’s mystical, vibrant, and designed to spark imagination.

It is a fantastical escape into an imagined world, an intricate landscape inspired by myths, legends, fairytales, and the raw beauty of the natural world from Emmas’ travels. The design combines many of Shipley’s most beloved hand-drawn illustrations, digitally printed onto a richly textured base.

Shipley’s work is instantly recognisable. Each piece begins as a pencil drawing before merging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary techniques. Her style is bold, colourful, and unapologetically imaginative, perfect for a room that wants to let creativity run wild.

The Craft Behind the Bed

For this special creation, Hypnos’ craftspeople were challenged to bring the most out of Emma Shipley’s designs. Pairing an an iconic bed with Emma Shipley’s Paradise Lost fabric, ensuring every curve, line, and surface highlighted the richness of the design. It was the perfect example of the possibilities that can be brought to life through our bespoke upholstery service. The result of this creation was a breathtaking fusion of craftsmanship and artwork: the comfort and precision of Hypnos, wrapped in the wild, dreamlike world of Shipley’s illustrations.

This collaboration epitomised the spirit of Hypnos’ innovative approach to bold and imaginative bed craftsmanship. That combines the best of traditional methods to make the most comfortable beds in the world. This time, a little more colourful.
