How do I choose the right bed?
The average person spends about a third of their life in bed, so it’s essential you choose the right mattress for your needs. When it comes to selecting your bed the mantra ‘try before you buy’ has never been truer, but it’s surprising how many people don’t actually do this. Wherever possible you should visit the Hypnos showroom or one of our retailers and test out a range of beds to see if you like your mattress firm, medium or even super soft. If you’re sharing the bed with a partner, try them out together – what suits one person won’t necessarily suit another, but finding out what works for both of you is the first step towards a great night’s sleep.
I recently stayed in a hotel with Hypnos beds and found them very comfortable. Are they available for members of the public to buy?
Hypnos beds can be found around the world in homes, hotels and cruise ships. Hypnos beds are individually made to order and can be tailored in terms of size, comfort level and appearance to ensure a customised and personalised solution. Whilst the exact beds supplied to a hotel may not be available, all of our main Collections are available through our national network of retailers. Our retailers are expertly trained to help you select the Hypnos bed that provides both you and your partner with the optimum amount of comfort and support. Please visit the ‘find a retailer’ section of our website to locate your nearest Hypnos retailer, or alternatively visit our Buckinghamshire showroom to see our full range.
I have seen a Hypnos model in a retail store but I can't see the model on your website, is it manufactured by Hypnos?
Hypnos manufactures a number of models which are made exclusively for a particular retailer or group of retailers. These models are manufactured in the same time honoured way, by the same master craftsmen and with the same level of care as our main Collections, but represent an exclusive arrangement of pocket springs, upholstery or fabrics tailored to a particular retailer’s needs. As long as the product is clearly marked with the Hypnos name and the Royal Arms on the mattress label then it is a genuine Hypnos product.
I bought my bed a number of years ago and want to purchase another, but I can't find the model - is it still available?
Hypnos is continually looking at new ways to improve the comfort and support of our beds in order to create the ultimate sleeping experience, as a result we do make changes to our Collections. It is probable that if your mattress is over 5 years old then this exact model will no longer be available, but a similar, comparable bed will be available. Your retailer will be able to guide you through our current Collections and help you find the best bed from our current range which is best suited to your comfort and support needs.
Can I purchase a new mattress to use on an existing divan base?
The Sleep Council recommends you buy a divan base and mattress together because the two are designed and manufactured to complement one another in terms of support. Do not use a new mattress with an old divan base or an old bedstead, which incorporate a sprung-system (either metal springs or sprung slats) – an imperfect base, with a worn and tired sprung-system, will provided a reduced level of support and could result in premature wear and invalidate the guarantee.
When should you change your mattress?
Whilst The Sleep Council recommends that a bed is changed every 7 years a quality bed should last for 10 years. A Hypnos bed comes with a 10 year guarantee. However it is important that your bed is judged on how comfortable and supportive it is for both you and your partner and not on its age. Regular mattress replacement every 7 years will also reduce the build up of asthma-triggering dust mites which love mattresses because we each lose around 285ml of fluid each night and shed 454 grams of dead skin cell each year. Pillows need to be replaced more often !
Is it true that the bigger the bed the better?
Yes, The Sleep Council recommends that you buy the biggest bed that will fit into your bedroom. Disturbance by your partner is one of the most common complaints for not being able to sleep well. Real luxury and great sleep normally start off with a big bed.
