Declutter to de-stress

This year, Marie Kondo started a trend of decluttering. The KonMari Method™ encourages tidying by category – not by location – beginning with clothes, then moving on to books, papers, miscellaneous items, and, finally, sentimental items. “Keep only those things that speak to the heart, and discard items that no longer spark joy. Thank them for their service – then let them go.” And, at Hypnos, we also believe having a clear out of your living space can make you more focused, relaxed and productive, especially when focusing on the bedroom.

When it comes to your sleep sanctuary, a tidy space not only breeds a tidy mind, it also creates a calm haven and a room that’s easier for you to relax and sleep in. In fact, de-cluttering is the perfect way to de-stress and create a bedroom that’s free from disorder and perfect for sleep.

Natalie Pennicotte-Collier, Hypnos’ sleep and wellbeing expert, is a clinical hypnotherapist and mindful expert specialising in sleep, wellbeing and mental health, comments:

“It’s important to remember that the last thing we see at night and the first things we see upon waking can hugely impact our mind set, our mood and feelings for the day, as well as the night, ahead.

“With this in mind you want to create an environment that evokes feelings of calm. Creating a clutter free environment is the first step in doing this and a positive move to help your wellbeing.
