| Frequently
Asked Questions |
| Q: I have
recently stayed in a hotel and found the beds very comfortable, I have
since discovered they are manufactured by Hypnos, are they available for
members of the public to buy? |
| A: Hypnos
beds can be found around the world in homes, hotels and cruise ships.
Hypnos beds are individually made to order and can be tailored in terms
of size, comfort level and appearance to ensure a customised and personalised
solution. Whilst the exact beds supplied to a hotel may not be available,
all of our main Collections are available through our national network
of retailers. Our retailers are expertly trained to help you select the
Hypnos bed that provides both you and your partner with the optimum amount
of comfort and support. Please visit the ‘find a retailer’
section of our website to locate your nearest Hypnos retailer, or alternatively
visit our Buckinghamshire showroom to see our full range. |
| Q: I have
seen a Hypnos model in a retail store but I cannot see the model on your
website, is it manufactured by Hypnos? |
| A: Hypnos
manufactures a number of models which are made exclusively for a particular
retailer or group of retailers. These models are manufactured in the same
time honoured way, by the same master craftsmen and with the same level
of care as our main Collections, but represent an exclusive arrangement
of pocket springs, upholstery or fabrics tailored to a particular retailer’s
needs. As long as the product is clearly marked with the Hypnos name and
the Royal Arms on the mattress label then it is a genuine Hypnos product. |
| Q: I brought
my bed a number of years ago and would like to purchase another, but I
cannot see the model in your brochure - is it still available? |
| A: At Hypnos
we are continually looking at new ways to improve the comfort and support
of our beds in order to create the ultimate sleeping experience, as a
result we do make changes to our Collections. It is probable that if your
mattress is over 5 years old then this exact model will no longer be available,
but a similar, comparable bed will be available. Your retailer will be
able to guide you through our current Collections and help you find the
best bed from our current range which is best suited to your comfort and
support needs. |
| Q: Can
I purchase a new mattress to use on an existing divan base? |
| A: The Sleep
Council recommends you buy a divan base and mattress together because
the two are designed and manufactured to complement one another in terms
of support. Your mattress may show visible signs of wear and tear but
the base will have had equal pressure and strain - it just doesn't show
quite so clearly. Your warranty may be compromised if the divan base is
unsuitable to support the mattress. The exception to this rule is where
a mattress is being purchased for an existing slatted or non slatted bed
frame. |
| Q: How
long does a bed last? |
| A: Whilst
The Sleep Council recommends that a bed is changed every 10 years, it
is fundamentally important that your bed remains comfortable and supportive
throughout your changing life. A quality bed will last for 10 years. A
Hypnos bed comes with a 10 year quality warranty. However it is important
that your bed is judged on how comfortable and supportive it is for both
you and your partner and not on its age. |
| Q: Is
it true that the bigger the bed the better? |
| A: Yes, The
Sleep Council recommends that you buy the biggest bed that will fit into
your bedroom. Disturbance by your partner is one of the most common complaints
for not being able to sleep well. Real luxury and great sleep normally
start off with a big bed. |
| Q: I have
a problem with my Hypnos bed, what do I do? |
A: Hypnos
provides a 10 year quality warranty on its retail beds. This is a 5
year ‘fixed’ warranty and a further 5 year ‘reducing’
warranty against any manufacturing defect. In order to register your
concern you will need to report the problem in writing to the retailer
from whom you purchased the bed and they will handle your warranty claim
on your behalf. Should your retailer no-longer be in business then please
contact our customer service team on 01844 348200 and have the following
available - proof of purchase, including date of purchase, product name
and size plus description of problem.

| Q: When
will the warranty cease to apply? |
| A: The warranty
will cease to apply when the bed is older than 10 years or if Hypnos finds
that during the warranty period any one of the following has occurred:
(1) The product is found to have been mistreated or damaged; (2) The product
has not been maintained in accordance with the care instructions supplied
- this includes mattresses not being turned or rotated as recommended;
(3) A new mattress has been used with an existing, damaged divan or a
divan that is deemed to be of unsuitable quality; (4) The mattress has
been used on a slatted bed base with slats more than 3" (7cm) apart. |
| Q: Can
I have any model zipped and linked? |
| A: Yes Hypnos
is able to manufacture any bed as a Zip and Link bed. This provides the
flexibility to provide a mattress with two different tensions, allowing
you and your partner to enjoy a different and tailored level of comfort
and support where appropriate. For extra versatility split a large bed
into two single beds when needed. The divans are discretely linked at
the head and foot of the bed allowing the mattresses to be zipped together
along their full length for easy and fast conversion. The standard sizes
for Zip and Link beds are King Size (150 x 200cm = 2 x 75cm wide mattresses),
Super King Size (180 x 200cm = 2 x 90cm wide mattresses) and our largest
standard size 200 x 200cm = 2 x 100cm wide mattresses. |
| Q: Can
I put any Hypnos mattress onto a slatted bed frame? |
A:
All of our mattresses are compatible with a slatted bed frame; you must
however ensure that the slats on the bed frame are no more than 3”
(7cm) apart and that there is a central support rail on ‘Double’
sizes (150 x 200cm, approx. 5’0 x 6’6) or over. Generally
slatted bed frames will give a mattress a firmer feel, it is therefore
important when you are trying Hypnos mattresses to check what style base
the mattress is sitting on, bearing in mind that a mattress displayed
on a sprung divan base will feel firmer when it is placed onto rigid slats.
If you find the sprung divan base more comfortable but do not want to
get rid of your bed frame then Hypnos manufacture a product called a bed
base, which sits directly onto the side rails and replaces the slats,
with the mattress then on top of the bed base. A bed base can be used
on a slatted or non-slatted bed frame, and will allow you to achieve the
comfort of a full divan base but keep the visual impact of a bed frame
- please contact your local retailer for further details.

| Q: How
frequently should I turn my Hypnos mattress? |
A:
The majority of Hypnos mattresses should be turned ‘Seasonally’
once every 3-4 months – at this time we recommend that you rotate
and flip the mattress. We would also suggest that for the first 3 months
of use the mattress is rotated and flipped weekly just to encourage an
even settlement of the high quality fillings. Your retailer will be able
to advise you if your mattress is not a Seasonal turn mattress.
Note: We recommend that you get assistance to turn the mattress. Apart
from the risk of injury to yourself, you also risk damaging the springs
should you bang, bend or roll the mattress. This would invalidate your
warranty. |
| Q: My
mattress has developed a slight hump in the centre is this normal? |
| A: Due to
the high volume of quality fillings used in Hypnos mattresses there will
be a period of time where the mattress fillings are settling down. This
will inevitably happen where weight is applied, which will generally be
where you sleep - as this is not normally in the centre, this will be
the last place the mattress settles. To speed up the settlement of the
mattress in the centre it is advisable to rotate and flip the mattress
over as frequently as possible, and wherever possible use the centre of
the mattress this will help ensure an even settlement of the fillings.

| Q: What
are your standard sizes? |
A:
There are a variety of descriptions for sizes, including Metric and
approximate Imperial versions. The following table identifies all the
standard UK sizes (other International sizes can easily be made) - the
first measurement is the width (W) and the second the length (L). Remember
Hypnos also specialise in made-to-measure, customised sizes. |

by your partner is one of the most common causes cited for a lack of sleep.
Real luxury and great sleep normally start off with a big bed. If you
sleep on your own choose our 4’ Independence size for a truly comfortable
experience. |
| Q: Do
you make large and long beds - custom sizes or custom shapes? |
| A:
Hypnos enjoys an international reputation as a manufacturer of bespoke,
made-to-measure beds and is able to make larger and longer customised
divan sets or indeed a non-standard size of mattress to fit an existing
bed frame – typically we can make beds up to 215 x 215 cm (approx.
7’ x 7’) - your local retailer will be able to advise on this.
Hypnos can also make special
shaped beds, from mattresses with cut-out corners for a four poster
bed frame, to curved beds or even tapered V beds to fit into a boats
berth.
